Calcific tendinopathy occurs in many locations around the body but the supraspinatus tendon is ythe most common.

The cause is unknown and unrelated to calcium metabolism.

US provides the earliest detection, plain films second and MRI is late as the low signal calcification does not contrast with low signal tendon.

Clinical presentations include an acute presentation simulating septic arthritis and impingement.

US can be used to guide treatment
