Joint surface partial tear
Joint surface partial tear
Partial Tears

  • High signal which does not completely traverse the tendon
  • Joint surface, Bursal surface, Intralaminar
  • Joint surface said to be more common but bursal surface difficult to diagnose
  • Lower accuracy rates on MRI, MRA helpful for joint surface tears

.

JSPT's are also noted at the interface between supraspinatus and infraspinatus in over arm throwing athletes.

Rim Rent (PASTA) lesion

.....
Joint surface partial tears (JSPT) often begin at the medial point of the tendon attachment (footprint). They undercut the footprint in a linear fashion. This type is called a 'Rim-Rent' tear or PASTA lesion.

A CID lesion is a concealed interstitial delimitation i.e. a partial tear that does not involve either joint or bursal surface. . These are a challenge for diagnosis as the arthroscopist will only be able to confirm its presence by incising the tendon.
