OLECRANON STRESS

      • Olecranon stress fractures are uncommon.
      • They result from repetitive microtrauma
      • and may be part of the constellation of posteromedial OA in throwing athletes
      • forming the valgus extension overload syndrome.
      • The associated bone oedema is best appreciated on fat suppressed T2, PD or STIR imaging
      • Any fracture lines are more apparent on T1

OLECRANON BURSITIS
Olecranon bursitis is an enlargement and inflammation of the adventitial bursa overlying the olecranon process. The usual causes are trauma, chronic pressure or systemic inflammatory disorder, most often rheumatoid arthritis. The diagnosis is usually made clinically from the typical enlargement in the classic location and imaging confirmation is rarely considered necessary. Occasionally ultrasound may be carried out both to aid diagnosis and guide aspiration and therapeutic injection if troublesome
