CHONDROSARCOMA

HALLMARK FEATURES:
      • Destructive lesion with
      • Matrix calcification
      •


Elongated
Well defined to poor defined
Punctate or floculent mineralisation
Cortical perforation leading to
Soft tissue mass
Range of malignant spectrum, lesions near or breaching cortex
And more than 4cm should be treated with suspicion
Lack of calcium in area suspicious of more aggression

CLEAR CELL CHONDROSARCOMA

HALLMARK FEATURES:
      • Epiphyseal
      • No matrix calcification
      • Proximal humerus


Low-grade variant of chondrosarcoma
More common in men *3
Third and fourth decades
Epiphyseal region of long bones
2/3 are in femur and the humerus
Also ribs, skull, spine, hands and feet
Well-defined
Lytic and slightly expansile
Thin sclerotic rim
No periosteal reaction
Enhancement pattern following contrast can be useful
More than *3 enhancement and steep slope = malignant
Less than *3 enhancement with steep slope deserves biopsy
